Latest Polls

I have NEVER been asked to do a "poll" have you? Who are these people that are giving the "Latest Polls" information?  Where do I sign up? Or should I say Who do I pay? This topic has puzzled me for awhile now so I acted out and searched for who in the heck are these polls talking about.

So here is what I found:

I cam across this website link http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/
Not to bad. Gave me some leading info. Gave me the name of some polls.

Here are a few:

  1. ABC/Wash Post,
  2. CNN/Opinion Research,
  3. CBS News/YouGov,
  4. Gravis Marketing,
  5. NBC/Marist
  6. Gallup,
  7. WBUR
  8. Rasmussen Reports,
  9. CBS News/NYT,
  10. Monmouth,
  11. PPP (D),
I have heard of the news stations and the Gallup polls. That is it. I have never seen how information is gathered so I figured it out. Check out the Latest Polls Page for those of you who want to read all the long boring stuff that I read. If you want the Gee-Whiz keep going.

Gee-Whiz
So here is the gist of it. They have a database of phone numbers, both land line and cellphone, that they use to call between 500-1000 citizens daily to ask questions pertaining to the particular subject that they are polling. I have never been contacted. Or at least I have never answered my phone and had Gallup contact me. I could have not answered. So if you want to be contacted or participate is there a way? Not really. Here is what they say on their website,

"I'd like to have my voice heard. How can I participate in your surveys?   Gallup's randomly selected samples help represent your opinion, even if you were not personally contacted. In fact, Gallup's random sampling is what ensures that the polls are nationally representative. I've never been called. How can a poll represent me?   ...Essentially, even though Gallup may not include you in the survey, your views are represented by other Americans sharing your views who are included survey."
